What this course covers
Youth work moved online and safeguarding had to follow. This course covers the risks specific to online and hybrid activities, and how to set a session up so that risk is reduced before anyone joins: acceptable use, ground rules, a named moderator, session timing. It covers photography, video and media consent, including images generated or altered by artificial intelligence. The second half covers data protection: why safeguarding records are special category data, who may see them, how long to keep them, and what changes when data crosses a border.

Safeguarding leads, project coordinators, online facilitators, and anyone responsible for records or communications.
By the end of this course
you will be able to
Identify the safeguarding risks specific to online and hybrid activities
Set up an online session so that risk is reduced before it begins
Apply media consent correctly, including for images altered or generated by artificial intelligence
Explain why safeguarding data is special category data, and what follows from that
Store, retain and share safeguarding records lawfully, including across borders
Respond to a safeguarding concern that arises online
