What this course covers
Safeguarding fails when nobody is quite sure who is responsible. This course sets out who does what — the Designated Safeguarding Lead, the deputy or external backup, the board, project coordinators, staff and volunteers — and how the lead role is staffed differently at each of the three tiers. It covers what a real induction contains, and what separates an organisation with a safeguarding culture from one that merely has a safeguarding policy.
Who this course is for
Safeguarding leads and deputies, managers, board members and trustees. Useful for anyone who wants to understand how the pieces fit together.
By the end of this course
you will be able to
Describe the responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead, and the limits of the role
Identify which tier your organisation falls into, and how the lead role is staffed at that tier
Explain why every organisation needs a second person, whatever its size
Describe the board’s governance responsibilities
State what every staff member and volunteer must know before working with participants
Recognise the signs of a weak safeguarding culture in an organisation
