Required for every project
1. A full safeguarding risk assessment, covering the activities, the participants, the location and the partners.

2. Consent forms appropriate to your participants — parental consent for under-18s, adult consent, media consent, and medical information.
3. The Participant Safeguarding Card, given to every participant in their own language.
4. Response flow charts, printed, laminated and available on site.
5. Your training plan reviewed, with any gaps closed before the project starts.
The rule that catches most projects out
When a concern arises at a partner’s site, the host organisation’s safeguarding lead normally leads the response, because they are in the country where the legal duties apply. The lead organisation’s safeguarding lead is informed immediately, and the two of them confirm between themselves who is doing what.
Agree this in writing, in the Partnership Safeguarding Agreement, before anyone travels. It is not a conversation to have while a concern is unfolding.
